Dental fear is common, in fact about 1 in every 7 Australian adults experience it. Dental fear can be caused by a past bad experience, past trauma, existing medical issues and even certain aspects of dentistry, such as smells or sounds within a practice. At EVP Dental, our caring and friendly team can help you manage and even overcome your dental fear and make your visit as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Here are some coping strategies to help you feel confident about your next visit: Talk to the dentist. Write down your questions and call ahead; Explain any triggers so we can avoid them; Ask about tailoring your plan to break up treatment into smaller visits or longer appointment for less time in the chair overall. Booking an early appointment to avoid unnecessary anticipation Establish a hand signal to take breaks during treatment Bring someone for support Use distraction techniques such as headphones to drown out any noise, watch the TV, or squeeze a stress ball Practice relaxation exercises before your visit, such as deep breathing, meditation and progressive muscle relaxation Ask about EMS Airflow for sensitive teeth cleans Ask about sedation options such as local anaesthesia, oral sedation, happy gas, sleep dentistry and general anaesthesia for your dental treatment.
